Winter Lip Care: 5 Tips to Maintain Soft and Supple Lips

During the cold winter months the drop in temperature can wreak havoc on our skin, particularly our delicate lips. The combination of harsh winds, low humidity, and indoor heating can lead to dry, chapped, and sometimes painful lips. However, with a little extra care and attention, you can keep your lips in great shape and enjoy a comfortable winter season. Here are five essential tips to ensure your lips stay soft and supple during the chilly months.

  1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate:

Staying hydrated is crucial for maintaining healthy skin, including your lips. During winter, it's easy to forget to drink enough water as we may not feel as thirsty as during the warmer months. However, staying properly hydrated helps prevent dryness and keeps your lips moisturized from the inside out (and the rest of your skin). Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water daily, and if you find plain water boring, you can infuse it with fruits like citrus or berries for added flavour.

  1. Exfoliate Gently:

Exfoliation is essential to remove dead skin cells and promote cell regeneration, but it's crucial to be gentle, especially on your lips. Using a soft toothbrush or a lip scrub once or twice a week can help slough off dry, flaky skin and reveal smoother lips underneath. Alternatively, you can create a DIY lip scrub using natural ingredients like honey and sugar. After exfoliation, make sure to apply a nourishing lip balm to lock in moisture.

  1. Choose the Right Lip Products:

Not all lip products are created equal, and during winter, it's best to opt for those with hydrating and protective properties. Look for lip balms that contain ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, almond oil, or beeswax. These ingredients create a barrier on your lips, preventing moisture loss and protecting them from harsh weather conditions. Avoid matte or long-wear lipsticks, as they can be drying. Instead, go for moisturizing lip tints or creamy lipsticks that offer hydration and colour simultaneously.  Our nourishing lip balm contains beeswax, coco butter, mango butter and jojoba oil to keep your lips perfectly hydrated throughout the coolers months.

  1. Shield Your Lips from the Elements:

Just like you bundle up in warm clothing to shield your body from the cold, your lips also need protection from the elements. Before heading outdoors, apply a generous layer of lip balm with SPF to shield your lips from the sun's harmful UV rays and acts as a barrier against cold winds. Cover your face with a scarf to shield your lips from harsh winds and further lock in moisture.

  1. Avoid Licking Your Lips:

When your lips are dry or chapped, it's a natural instinct to lick them for temporary relief. However, licking your lips actually exacerbates the problem. Saliva evaporates quickly, leaving your lips even drier than before. Instead, reach for your trusty lip balm and apply it whenever your lips feel dry. Having a lip balm handy in your bag, on your desk, or beside your bed will remind you to moisturize your lips regularly, reducing the temptation to lick them.

By following these five simple yet effective tips, you can keep your lips in excellent condition throughout the winter. Remember, consistency is key, so make lip care a part of your daily routine to enjoy soft, smooth, and supple lips all season long. Embrace the winter wonderland without worrying about chapped lips, and keep smiling confidently!
